mRNA translational control

We’ve been using polysome profiling to measure and analyze mRNA translation in developing larvae. So far we’ve been looking at how nutrient/TOR signaling controls mRNA translation and examining how translational control of cell cycle genes may couple TOR signaling to endocycles.

Nutrient deprivation leads to a rapid inhibition of mRNA translation in larvae - see Nagarajan and Grewal, 2014

In the future, we will use polysome profiling to ask the following:

  • What mRNAs are translationally-regulated by nutrient deprivation?
  • Do other environmental stresses affect mRNA translation in larvae? How? What mRNAs are regulated?
